Privacy & Cookies
Last updated: July 2026
KoFEM is a browser-based finite element solver. Your geometry, meshes, and analysis all run locally in your browser — STEP files, meshes, loads, and results are never uploaded to a server. This page explains the limited data KoFEM does collect and the cookies it may set.
Analytics cookies
With your consent, KoFEM uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used — for example which pages are visited and roughly how many people use the solver. This helps us decide what to improve.
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (typically named
_ga and _ga_<id>) that store a randomly
generated identifier and are used to distinguish visitors and sessions.
These cookies are not strictly necessary for the site
to work.
Consent first. The analytics script is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set until you choose Accept in the cookie banner. If you choose Decline, Google Analytics stays disabled.
You can change your choice at any time using the
Cookie settings link (also
in the site footer). Declining opts you out via Google's documented
ga-disable flag.
What is collected
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics may process:
- Pages viewed and events such as starting the solver.
- Approximate location (country / region), derived by Google from your IP address. IP addresses are not stored by GA4.
- Device and browser information (screen size, browser, operating system).
Data is processed by Google on our behalf. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles this data. You can also install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Other storage
KoFEM stores a couple of small values in your browser's
localStorage that are strictly functional and never leave
your device: your light/dark theme preference and your cookie-consent
choice. These are not tracking cookies.
Self-hosted assets
Fonts and the 3D engine are served from KoFEM itself, not third-party CDNs. The only third-party request KoFEM makes is loading Google Analytics — and only after you consent.
